‘Malini Acting Theory’ book launch and lecture on Wed.


Untitled-1Dr.  Malini Fonseka Foundation has organised a series of events from August 8 to 22, at various venues in Colombo to felicitate legendary film star Malini Fonseka who is crossing her landmark 50th anniversary as a cinema actress.

The series will be ceremonially unspooled at the National Film Corporation’s Tharangani cinema on Wednesday, August 8 at 10 am, with the launch of an extensively researched publication titled ‘Malini Ranga Nyaya’ (Malini’s Acting Theory) authored by veteran actor and journalist Jackson Anthony who will also deliver a special lecture based on Malini’s approach in the field of acting. The lecture will be backed with a comprehensive audio-visual power point presentation too. 

Malini Fonseka who is dubbed Sinhala cinema’s ‘Screen Queen’ made her acting debut in 1963 via the ‘Noratha Ratha’ stage play produced and directed by Kelaniya Vidyalankara University Alumni H. D. Weerasiri on behalf of its Art Society.

In a bid to pay the nation’s biggest tribute to Dr. Malini Fonseka who completes 55 years in her overall acting career, the Humanities Faculty of the Kelaniya University together with the Dr. Malini Fonseka Foundation cordially invite all past graduates, Malini Fonseka fans, students pursuing studies relating to cinema and acting as well as all movie lovers to participate in this significant scholastic event. Having played the main role in 14 stage plays, Malani became a huge brand name in films playing fascinating roles opposite almost all heroes including Ananda Jayaratne, Joe Abeywickrema, Gamini Fonseka, Vijaya Kumaratunga, Tony Ranasinghe, Ravindra Randeniya, Robin Fernando, Tissa Wijesurendra, Sanath Gunathilaka and others.

In 1984 she became a movie director and producer with “Sasara Chethana” and later made her entry to the television as well.
