The police personnel deployed for providing security to the Pallekele stadium during the cricket match between Sri Lanka and South Africa were in for a rude shock as some of them did not get their lunch from the authorities concerned. Some other police personnel have received only stale food for consumption.

A number of police officers have complained that they had been deployed for duty at about 5.00 a.m. and some of them had received the stale lunch packets at about 3.30 p.m.

When inquired about this, a senior officer of Kandy Cricket Control Board said the duty for the provision of lunch for the police officers who had come for security was entrusted with the officials of the Cricket Control Board. A large number of police officers who had come to Pallekele stadium said that they had performed their duties with great difficulty but it was a matter for regret that they had been ignored by the officials of Sri Lanka Cricket.
