The High Post Committee of Parliament is yet to confirm the nomination of former ambassador Dr. Dayan Jayatilake as Sri  Lanka’s envoy to Russia due to objections raised by several MPs, it is learnt.
President Maithripala Sirisena has nominated Dr. Jayatilake to the post and notified it to the committee.

However, JVP and TNA MPs representing the committee have sought reports over allegations levelled against Dr. Jayatilake that he was once recalled to the country when serving in Geneva and that he had been charge-sheeted by the ministry.

The ministry is expected to submit reports to committee members today. Earlier, a collective of civil society organisations protested Dr. Jayatilake’s nomination to the post.
