A water pumping station has been constructed to control the flood situation in Ambatale, Malabe, Talangama and Avariyahena, the Megapolis and Western Development Ministry said. The station costing Rs.2,896 million had been constructed within 21 months.

The ministry said several projects had been identified to control the flood situation in Colombo and its suburbs.

“The ministry has begun 36 projects in Colombo under which three pumping stations will be constructed in Nagalan  Street, Ambatale and St. Sebastian Right Canal. Construction work of the pumping station in Nagalan Street is almost complete. We are also working on acquiring land necessary for the pumping station in St.  Sebastian Canal,” the ministry said.

However, the agreement for the pumping station in Ambatale was signed recently by Megapolis and Western Development Ministry Secretary Nihal Rupasinghe and an official of the private company handling the project. Subject Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka was also present at the occasion.
