Untitled-14A five-member committee, headed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had been appointed by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya yesterday to review the Delimitation Commission Report on Provincial Councils which was defeated in Parliament.

According to the Speaker’s Media Unit, the other members of the committee are R.M.A.L. Ratnayake, Periyasamy Muthulingam, Professor Balasundarampillai and Dr. A.S.M. Naufal.

The report was prepared by the Delimitation Commission headed by former Surveyor General K.Thavalingam in line with the Provincial Councils Elections (Amendment) Act that was passed last September.

According to the law, if the report prepared by the Delimitation Commission is rejected by Parliament, a five-member committee headed by the Prime Minister has to be appointed by the Speaker which would review the report in question and report back to the President. If the President accepts the report of the five-member committee the delimitation process would be deemed to have been approved and PC elections could be held thereafter.
