Sri Lanka powered their way to record another emphatic victory on the second day of the 11th Asian Netball Championships worked off at the OCBC Arena in Singapore yesterday.

The former champions produced a ruthless performance once again as they outplayed neighbours India by a massive margin of 101-29.

Untitled-4This was also Sri Lanka’s second successive win in the tournament after having defeated Chinese Taipei by a record margin of 137-5 in their opening fixture on Saturday.

With this win Sri Lanka secured the top spot in Group ‘B’ with an unbeaten record and now they await their opponents in the second-round. 

Sri Lanka raced to a commanding 26-8 lead after the first quarter with Gayanjali Amarawansha, Thilini Wattegedera and Gayani Dissanayake playing a key role.   

In addition, Tharjini Sivalingam was able to make use of every given opportunity as she ended with a goal shoot average of 98.    

Sri Lanka accumulated a further 33 goals and conceded only four goals to their opponents during the second quarter with Nauchali Rajapaksa, Hasitha Mendis and Dulangi Wannithilaka making their presence felt.

Sri Lanka went on to consolidate their position and took the third quarter 20-7 and the fourth quarter 22-10 before topping the century mark for the second successive outing.   

In other matches, Malaysia defeated the Maldives 74-13 and Singapore beat Pakistan 84-17.
