A swashbuckling unbeaten knock of 104 in just 55 balls inclusive of six boundaries and nine towering sixes by Skipper Upul Tharanga paved the way for Colombo to record an emphatic seven wicket win over Dambulla in the SLC T20 League Cricket Tournament final played under lights at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

Tharanga was associating in three match winning partnerships. The first was a brief 38 runs for the second wicket with Lahiru Madusanka and the second a 36-run stand for the third wicket with Priyamal Perera.

The turning point of Colombo’s run chase came in the 18th over when Tharanga struck two successive sixes of Shehan Madusanka’s over and the completion of this over saw the champion side needing just two runs from 12 balls.
Earlier Dambulla Skipper Isuru Udana winning the toss and electing to take first lease of the wicket got off to an inauspicious start losing their first wicket with just two runs on the board in the third over.

Dambulla were left with only two recognised batsmen in Hasitha Boyagoda and Wanindu Hasaranga and the duo did not disappoint the side.

The pair frustrated the Colombo bowlers and began accumulating runs at will and then went on to post their 50-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

Dambulla: 163/8 in 20 overs (Ramith Rambukwella 57, Hasitha Boyagoda 40, Wanindu Hasaranga 22, Jeevan Mendis 2/27, Akila Dananjaya 2/37)

Colombo: 167/3 in 18.2 overs  (Upul Tharanga 104 n.o, Shehan Jayasuriya 35 n.o).
