If Northern Chief Minister C.V.Wigneswaran made any contribution to develop the North as the Chief Minister in the last five years, he should not have worried about war memorials of war heroes, Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said yesterday.

Minister Ranawaka further added that Wigneswaran has failed even to utilize the funds allocated by the government for the development of the North despite his fellow citizens and those who voted for him having many a hardship.

Addressing a ceremony held yesterday to mark the laying of foundation stone to construct the Ginigathhena Bus Stand at a cost of Rs. 90 million, Minister Ranawaka said Wigneswaran must keep in mind that he was able to become Chief Minister in the North, thanks to the sacrifices made by heroic soldiers who obliterated the separatist terrorism of barbaric LTTE and brought peace, communal harmony and reconciliation to entire Sri Lanka.

“I would like to ask the Chief Minister to show one single development project he launched for the people in the North for the last five years. The government has allocated more than enough funds to develop the North under the Northern PC. If he used those State funds for the benefit of the Northern people he could have shown them as his monuments and must not be worried about those of others,” Minister Ranawaka emphasized.

Minister Ranawaka said it was a common knowledge that failed and bankrupt politicians use racism, patriotism and religious affiliations for their advantage and incite unrest among the communities. They exploit and hang onto racial and religious extremism for their political survival. But they must realize that they cannot hoodwink the people for ever. There will be a day the voters who kicked them upstairs of political ladder will also kicked them to the dust bin as well when they realized the true colour.

Minister Ranawaka recalled that development monuments built by Tamils leaders like G.G.Ponnambalam in 1947 under the UNP regime like Cement Factory in KKS, Paranthan Chemical Factory, Paper Mills in Valachchenai still remain intact. Therefore, if Wigneswarana has any feeling for his people he must change his vituperative politics and embrace people friendly, democratic policies and give up extremist politics.

Minister Ranawaka added that the Megapolis and Western Development Ministry has chosen Jaffna to develop as a strategic city in the North and spend huge amount of funds to resolve water problem, improve infrastructure facilities, develop schools and hospitals. In this endeavour, his Ministry expects the cooperation and assistance of CM, Wigneswaran because all these services are done for the people of the North, he stressed.
