Joint opposition MP Bandula Gunawardane said yesterday the government was not interested in taking the activities of Parliament seriously by failing to maintain the quorum at a time when an important finance bill was to be taken up for debate. He told Daily Mirror that the Economic Services Charge (Amendment) Bill was to be taken up in Parliament yesterday, but the government failed to maintain a quorum and the House had to be adjourned.

“The government thinks it can administer the country without the Parliament.

The government would have been in trouble if the bill had been defeated in Parliament yesterday,” the MP said.
