Maldives despite losing the last match of Group ‘B’ to India 0-2 reached the semi-finals of the SAFF Cup Football Tournament courtesy of the toss at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh yesterday.
India who had earlier defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 emerged as the group champions and a toss was used to choose the other semifinalist from the group.

The lady luck favoured the Maldives and Sri Lanka were sent packing.

Nepal and the Maldives will play in the first semi-final on Wednesday while India will lock horns with Pakistan in the second semi-final on the same day.

India took the lead in the 37th minute with forward Nikhil Chandrashekhar drawing first blood. The forward produced a speedy run through the defence and tapped the ball past the Maldives custodian Mohamed Faisal from the edge of the eight-yard box (1-0).

India’s grip on the match was further extended in the last minute of the first half when Lallianzuala Changte raced past the onrushing Maldives goalie Faisal before placing the ball into the far post net (2-0).
