According to the data put out by the Meteorology Department yesterday, temperature in many areas in the country was high and exceeded 30°C. 



High temperature is a usual phenomenon in the month of September



The Meteorology Department said high temperature was a usual phenomenon in the month of September as the sun comes directly above Sri  Lanka. 

“Temperature in several areas including Batticaloa, Jaffna, Moneragala, Mattala and Anuradhapura exceeded 30°C as of last afternoon. The highest temperature of 37°C was recorded from Moneragala,” the Meteorology Department said. 

However, showers are expected in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva and Central Provinces after 2.00 p.m. Meanwhile, fairly heavy falls of above 50mm was forecasted at some places in the Northern, North-central and Central Provinces.
