Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is on a visit to India, held a one-to-one meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed the need for a renewal of friendship, sources said yesterday.


According to sources, the meeting took place for 40 minutes at the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi.


The main focus of the talks was the renewal of friendship. Besides, the former President met with some key officials of the Indian Government.


He is accompanied by former Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris, MP Lohan Ratwatte and former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal.


The former President is expected to meet with Indian Congress Party Leader Rahul Gandhi today.
