Pakistani arrested with heroin worth Rs. 16mn at BIA

A Pakistani national was arrested by Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday morning, when he attempted to smuggle in 1.6 kg of heroin with a street value of Rs. 16 million.   


Officials of the Customs Narcotic Division arrested the suspect when he arrived via Muscat from Karachchi, had concealed the heroin in the false bottom of his travelling bag.   

After the initial investigations, customs inquiry would be conducted by Deputy Director of Customs (Narcotic Control) K.H.P. Kumarasiri. The suspect was later handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau. 

A PNB official said the Pakistani would be detained for seven-days for further investigation after being produced in court.
