DIG Nalaka de Silva, who heads the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) and is currently mired in a controversy over a leaked phone conversation of a plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, has been temporarily transferred to the Police IT division, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.

He said he was transferred by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara on the approval of the National Police Commission.

The IGP handed over the investigations to the CID after a phone conversation believed to be between DIG de Silva and a member of the Anti-Corruption Force went viral.

Initially the investigation was handled by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) prior to it being handed over to the CID which had grilled Namal Kumara of the anti-corruption force on Sunday.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has also requested a report on the incident from the IGP.
