The new court building constructed after refurbishing the sub office of the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha still remains idle as the new space is insufficient for the court to function.

Several years ago the Wattala Magistrate court functioned in a place at Station Road Wattala. As the court buildings at this place were in a dilapidated condition the ministry had decided to house the magistrate court at the premisses of the sub office of the Wattala  Pradeshiya Sabha, temporarily shifting the the Wattala Magistrate court to the Kadawatha Magistrate court premises.

After taking over of the buildings which came under the purview of the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha, the Ministry of Justice spent millions of rupees for the construction work and other requirement of a magistrate court including the Judge’s Chair, accused docks and cell for detainees.

Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha earned a substantial income as fees for use of building for various events and conducting private classes from then existed buildings.

However the decision to shift the Wattala Magistrate Court to new suitable buildings has still not been fruitful.
