The National Freedom Front (NFF) said yesterday former chief of the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID), DIG Nalaka de Silva had connections with the LTTE.

He is currently mired in a controversy over a leaked phone conversation of an alleged plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Addressing a news briefing, NFF National Organiser Jayantha Samaraweera said they had evidence to prove DIG Nalaka Silva maintained a close relationships with LTTE personnel in Chavakachcheri and that some of them were still in contact with him.

“Namal Kumara, a reliable spy attached to the Sri Lanka Police, recently leaked a phone conversation of the DIG where he allegedly plots to assassinate the President and the former Defence Secretary. When such hard evidence is available, we can’t fathom as to why the government is not taking any legal action against him. The government showed interest in attempting to arrest army personnel like Lieutenant Colonel Erantha Peiris and Shammi Kumaratne, but why is it backing off when it comes to DIG Nalaka Silva?” he questioned.

On a different note, he said the Sri Lankan Rupee would depreciate up to Rs.200 against the US Dollar in the near future.
