The Chief Prelate of the Malwatte Chapter, Most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera and the Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathne Thera had jointly written to President Maithripala Sirisena to initiate state intervention in preventing the spread of false beliefs by distorting the Thripitaka Damma by misguided laymen and individuals clad in robes.

The letter sent by the chief prelates stated further that the Dhamma preached by Gauthama Buddha, the Historical Sasanaya and the religious rituals observed and practiced by the Buddhist people over 2,000 years through self-sacrifices are well established in the country.

The most purest Theravada Buddhist traditions had been encrypted in the Tripitaka through word of mouth over many generations. Likewise a great culture had been interwoven within this Teravada Buddhism by which it is accepted that Sri Lanka is recognized as Darmadeepa where Sri Sambuddha Sasanaya and the Pali Language are well secured.

However, at present few laymen and ordained individuals, have organized themselves to work in contempt of Dharma Vinaya and commit actions against the Buddhist charter in an organized manner. They spread falsehoods and make malicious statements on the Buddhahood, history of the sasanaya and spread false concepts among the Buddhist society.

By their actions and the preaching, they seem to challenge, status of Arahat, status of Sothapanna which amounts to the forsaking of Monkhood. By these actions and preaching the minds of the devout Buddhist are being corrupted.
They desecrate the Buddhist Discourses, the Pali language, The Buddha’s Character, Sana history, Buddhist rituals, cultural activities and the dignity of our historical Buddhist shrines.
