President Maithripala Sirisena who is currently in New York City will address the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly today at 4.30 pm (New York time)

This is the fourth time President Sirisena is addressing the UN State Leaders Conference, and is expected to present a decisive proposal as a solution to the war crimes allegations levelled against Sri Lanka. The President revealed this when he met the heads of media institutions recently.

His new proposals are expected to pave the way to amend the proposals approved by the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). New York-based diplomatic sources said the idea of providing justice to the LTTE convicts and war heroes would be incorporated in the proposals to be submitted by the Sri Lankan President.   The President is hopeful that the proposals presented by him to the UN General Assembly will be handed over to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterez and UN Human Rights Commission Chief Michel Batchlet for implementation.
