The CID yesterday recorded a four-hour long statement from Minister Sarath Fonseka in connection with journalist Keith Noyahr’s abduction and attack in 2008.  Field Marshal Fonseka was the Army Commander at the time Mr. Noyahr was abducted.

The CID had also obtained a statement from him on an earlier occasion.

The CID had also obtained statements from former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.

CID officers had visited Australia in July this year to obtain a statement from Mr. Noyahr, who currently lives in Melbourne.

Several Army personnel, including former Military Intelligence Director and Chief of Staff Major General (Retired) Amal Karunasekara were arrested in connection with Noyahr’s abduction
and assault.
