She plays struggling singer Ally in her first lead movie role in Bradley Cooper’s tragic romance A Star Is Born. And Lady Gaga ensured she pulled out all the sartorial stops as she attended the star-studded London premiere of the hotly-anticipated film at Vue West End cinema on Thursday. The six-time Grammy Award winner, 32, looked showstopping in a Elizabethan-inspired ivory gown with a decadent gold embellished corset-style bodice as she put on an affectionate display with her ‘friend for life’ Bradley, 43, on the red carpet.

The actress, born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, certainly turned heads in her dramatic gown, which gave a sartorial nod to a bygone era thanks to the tiered full skirt and trumpet sleeves. Injecting a modern dose into the irreverent garment, Gaga flashed a peek of her cleavage thanks to the cut-out neckline of the bodice, which was embellished in ornate pearl gold and cream swirls. The Bad Romance singer injected a final regal flair thanks to the ruffled collar of the dress, which balanced out the revealing upper-half of the creation. Letting the statement garment do all the talking, the Grammy favourite styled her golden tresses  in a sleek fringe, with soft layers framing
her face, and the rest swept back into an intricate chignon.

Speaking to MailOnline at the premiere, Gaga gushed that Bradley is now a ‘friend for life’ and praised his ability to direct, write, sing and act in the film. ‘Bradley is a friend for life. Incredible human being. Not only did I make a great friend from this film, but I got to witness such a masterful artist,’ she said. ‘He is so incredible. He’s a renaissance man. He directs, writes. He wrote songs for this film, sang live, directed, starred.’ The singer also discussed the Oscar buzz already surrounding the film, insisting that the ‘real reward’ for her is starring in the movie.

‘That’s very humbling but the rewards for me was making this movie with a wonderful director, a beautiful cast, the family that Bradley Cooper created, it’s so authentic and real, we love each other so much. That’s the real reward for me,’ she said. Gaga added that she was surprised to end up in the film as she was so ‘terrible’ at auditions for roles in commercials that she gave it up to be a singer.

I was terrible at auditions. I did them for commercials, to play extras. I was terrible at acting in auditions. So I gave up and went for as a singer/songwriter. So this is all very humbling,’ she admitted. A Star Is Born tells the tragic romance of musician Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) who discovers and falls head-over-heels for struggling singer Ally (Lady Gaga).

Yet as Ally finds new found fame with her vocal talents, the lovers’ relationship begins to breakdown as Jack fights an ongoing battle with his demons.  The Pokerface hitmaker recently admitted that being bullied in high school helped her understand how her character felt.

Well, what’s different between Ally and I is that when I decided I was going to go for it as a singer and songwriter, I just hit the ground running,’ she told People.   ‘What I had to do was go back further into my childhood, into my high school years, when I was bullied and made fun of for having big dreams. ‘That’s where I went. But I think I went further because I trusted Bradley [Cooper] so much – to be vulnerable, to be my authentic self.’  Lady Gaga takes centre stage in her first major movie, four-times Oscar nominee Bradley makes his directorial debut with A Star Is Born. Limitless star Bradley reminisced on how he cherry picked Lady Gaga for the role of Ally when he made an appearance at the Los Angeles film premiere. The actor insisted there was ‘no movie’ without the Bad Romance hitmaker after he was so impressed with her genuine sense of character and vocal talents.
