Woman shot at Ja-Ela dies from injuries

A 40-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries last afternoon, following a gunman opening fire at her at Weligampitiya in Ja-Ela last morning, the Police said.


The Police said a gunman in a car fired shots at the woman, who was travelling in another car. The injured woman was admitted to the Colombo North (Ragama) Teaching Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The victim has been identified as a resident of Ja-Ela. The post-mortem examination was conducted last evening.

Meanwhile, a man identified as Ajith Kumara has said in a statement to the Ja-Ela Police that a group of men who had followed his car had shot at another car, similar to his at Weligampitiya in Ja-Ela. The woman, who died, was in the car that was shot at by the gang.

The man is a resident of Minuwangoda has also several pending court cases against him in connection with shooting incidents. The Police said that they suspected the shooting at the woman’s car was a result of mistaken identity of the car. However the Police said the motive was not yet established. No suspects had been arrested so far. The Kandana Police are conducting investigations.
