Several special programmes for children had been organised at the Dehiwala Zoo to mark the International Children’s Day yesterday with Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife and Regional Development Field Martial Sarath Fonseka and Mrs Fonseka as chief guests.


The Minister declared open the new entrance and the recently developed children’s park in the zoo.


The children were allowed free entry and they were provided refreshments and special shows of animals .


The day’s programme included art competitions and series of merry-making activities for children.


Secretary to the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Wildlife and Regional Development A.P.G. Kithsiri, Director General of the Department of Zoological Gardens Dhammika Malsinghe, Deputy Directors Anoka Priyadarshani, Renuka Bandaranayake, Asst. Directors Navod Abeysinghe, Mrs. Gayan Karunatillake, Dilan Abeysinghe, Chief Accountant Kesaraj and Construction Engineer Ravindra Raj Selvakumar were present at the occasion.
