Gamini Senarath fraud case Special HC fixes trial on Oct. 15

The Special High Court yesterday fixed for October 15 the trial on former president’s chief of staff Gamini Senarath and three other officials.   


The matter was taken up by Trial-at-Bar Judges Sampath Wijeratna, Sampath Abeykoon and Champa Janaki Rajaratna where the prosecution handed over copies of all but two of its documents to 
the defence.   

Mr. Senarath, Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation’s former executive director Piyadasa Kudabalage, Samurdhi Development Department’s former director general Neil Bandara Hapuhinna and Lasantha Bandara were charged with with criminal misuse of public funds amounting to Rs.500 million under the Public Property Act, Penal Code and Money Laundering Act.   

 They were indicted by the Attorney General on 21 counts of fraud and misuse of public property.   

The AG has listed 92 documents as case productions and the names of 63 witnesses due to give evidence for the prosecution.
