More than 900 homes have been severely affected by the prevailing weather condition in Moratuwa, Divisional Secretary (Ms.) Nimal Karunarathne said.   


Ms. Karunarathne added that one death was reported from the area, where the individual had fallen into the water during a seizure, she said.   


Homes in 12 Gramasevaka divisions had been affected by the weather. “The water level did not decrease for sometime, but we can see a gradual decrease now,” she said.   


Moratuwa, Thelawala, Borupana, Molpe, Katubedda, Koralawella North and West, Villorawaththa East and West and Moratuwella areas were the worst affected by the weather.   


Measures have been taken to provide meals to those affected. “We have prepared 3,700 packets of food to be distributed to those in affected areas, the Divisional Secretary said.
