The Colombo High Court yesterday re-issued summons on President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to be in Court on January 22 and 23 next year to give evidence in the case against former UNP general secretary Tissa Attanayake.

Although, on four previous occasions they  had been issued with summons to attend Court they had kept away on the basis that it was difficult for them to attend court because of official duties, thus resulting in the case being repeatedly postponed.

However, on a previous occasion Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi had pointed out that the defendant could not remain a defendant forever in the face of such repeated absenteeism.

The Attorney General had indicted Mr. Attanayake in the Colombo High Court for displaying a forged document about a secret agreement between the then common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena and the then opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe during the 2015 presidential election campaign.
