The Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) deferred the letter sent by its 15-member group asking for severing ties with the government, for consideration later, it is learnt.

This group, which defected the Government and joined hands with the Joint Opposition later, requested the SLFP leadership in writing to quit the Government.

They also said that the SLFP could be with the Government only for two years. They said the period had already lapsed.

They have also decided to boycott the Central Committee meetings until the SLFP took a decision in this regard.

The letter came up for discussion at Tuesday’s Central Committee meeting. However, none of the 15-member Group was present.

According to sources, President Maithripala Sirisena, as the SLFP leader, deferred the letter for consideration later.
