Three Tamil Parliamentarians who contested the General Election in August 2015 under the UNP symbol have come forward to pledge their support to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who was sworn in as the Prime Minister by President Maithripala Sirisena on Friday.

UNP MP Vadivel Suresh had met Mr. Rajapaksa yesterday morning and expressed his allegiance to the latter. Later in the evening the executive committee of the Upcountry Peoples Front (UPF) gave the consent to the two Parliamentarians of the Party, Party Leader V. Radhkrishnan and S. Aravinda Kumar to support Mr. Rajapaksa. UPF executive committee met in Colombo yesterday.

Another UNP Paliamentarian, Ananda Aluthgamage had teamed up with Mr. Rajapaksa on Friday, the same day Mr. Rajapaksa was sworn in as the Prime Minister.

Although two MPs of Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) including its leader Arumugan Thondaman had pledged their support to Mr. Rajapaksa on Saturday, they had contested the last General election under the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) under which Mr. Rajapaksa also contested.
