England struggle in tour warm-up

The visiting England Team toiled the entire opening day as the Sri Lanka Board XI piled up a formidable first innings score of 392 for nine declared in their first innings in the two-day warm-up match played at the NCC Grounds in Maitland Place yesterday.


Their innings was built around four superb half centuries from Kaushal Silva (62), Sadeera Samarawickrama (58), Ashan Priyanjan (50) and Manoj Sarathchandra (59 n.o). 
Earlier, Sri Lanka Board XI Skipper Lahiru Thirimanne won the toss and elected to take first lease of the wicket.


Opener Kaushal Silva gave the side a flying start by associating in a 99-run stand with Thirimanne. 


Thirimanne joined by Samarawickrama added 40 runs for the second wicket which was followed by a 65-run stand for the third wicket between Samarawickrama and Angelo Mathews (45).


The Board XI lost two quick wickets in the middle order but Priyanjan and Roshen Silva (11) brought them back into the game with a 38-run stand for the seventh wicket. 

Priyanjan added a further 45 runs for the eighth wicket with Manoj Sarathchandra who later put on 57 runs for the ninth wicket along with Pathum Nissanka (29 n.o).
