Foreign Minister meets SA envoys

Newly appointed Foreign Affairs Minister Sarath Amunugama yesterday started engaging the diplomatic community in Colombo on the circumstances that led to the change of Premiership, the Daily Mirror learns.

As part of this exercise, he met with the heads of diplomatic missions of South Asian countries.

According to diplomatic sources, Dr Amunugama briefed them as to why UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe was removed from his post as the Prime Minister.

Also, he explained the Constitutional Provisions justifying the actions taken by the President to remove the Prime Minister.

The new Minister will meet with the diplomatic community in batches, it is learnt.
