A group of UPFA MPs yesterday said that they were of the view that the Opposition Leader Post should retain in the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe should not be appointed to it.
In response to a question posed at a news briefing held at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Head Office, MP Susil Premajayantha said that they were hoping the TNA should remain in the Opposition chair.
Backing his views, MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that they would return the favour to Mr. Wickremesinghe for not awarding the Opposition Leader post to Joint Opposition in Parliament.   “We will do the very same what he had done to us. He is no longer the Prime Minister, he will not get even the Opposition Leader’s post, and soon would lose the UNP leadership as well,” he said.   TNA Leader R. Sampanthan held discussions with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at his Wijerama residence on Tuesday. However, the TNA said the post of Opposition Leader was not discussed during Tuesday’s meeting.
