  • TNA says Country facing a grave crisis

A resolution signed by 118 MPs — against the appointment of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister and the appointments and the decisions thereafter — was adopted yesterday at a meeting of UNP,  JVP and TNA MPs held in the Committee room 1 in the parliamentary complex.

UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella said appointing someone who did not command the majority support in Parliament as the Prime Minister and proroguing Parliament without consulting the Speaker were unconstitutional.

TNA Leader R. Sampanthan, who spoke at the meeting, said the country was facing a grave constitutional crisis and urged that Parliament be convened early enabling it to take a decision on this grave matter.
“Removal of the incumbent Prime Minister by the President was unconstitutional and illegal,” he said.

Party leaders Rauff Hakeem, Mano Ganesan, P. Digambaram, Rishard Bathiudeen and Champika Ranawaka and MPs of the political parties.

We don’t accept any of the decisions and appointments made by the  President that followed the appointment of Mr. Rajapaksa as the Prime  Minister
