Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanaratana Thera told a UNP delegation yesterday it was the responsibility of all concerned to resolve issues amicably without a bloodbath.

The UNP delegation comprised former UNP Ministers Lakshman Kiriella, Ravi Karunanayake, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, Daya Gamage, J.C. Alawathuwala, Ranjith Madduma Bandara and Ranjith Aluvihare.

The Mahanayake Thera said, “External forces should not interfere with the internal affairs of Sri Lanka. They should not be allowed to do it. Why are they interfering with our affairs?” He said all issues should be sorted out amicably without paving the way for a bloodbath to take place.

Mr. Kiriella told the media after the event that Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa had no mandate to become the Prime Minister.

He said it was inappropriate to prorogue Parliament without consulting the Speaker.
