UNP MP Hirunika Premachandra yesterday alleged that a person had called her aunt, who was residing abroad and had threatened to put an end to her political career if she failed to accept a Ministerial portfolio.

Ms Premachandra told a media briefing that her aunt had told the caller that she would not accept any portfolio. “My aunt had told the caller that her niece (I) cannot be bought over. Then the caller said they would destroy my political career,” she alleged.

She said she had been made many offers to join the new Government by many individuals.

“I have recorded all phone calls offering various things but I don’t want to reveal them to the public now, as the true face of some Buddhist Monks and Christian priests would be revealed if I did so,” she said.  Referring to the speech made by President Sirisena on Monday, Ms Premachandra said one should not refer to another’s private life.

Telephone conversation

Fazil Muhammed Nizar:“I called Hirunika so many times, because from the day that she was elected to parliament she had not been able to get a Cabinet post and an opportunity to serve the country”

Aunt Swarna Premachandra:Oh! Come on, Come on Fazil. Aiyo, that is not you are trying to do and you are asking Hirunika to come to Mahinda’s Cabinet.

Fazil Muhammed Nizar:No no no no

Aunt Swarna Premachandra:You must be kidding. You must be kidding.

Fazil Muhammed Nizar: The Boss is still Maithripala. Don’t forget. Mahinda Rajapaksa gets resources like to think what he did in his regime. Before 2014, I was the same person who goes all out against him.

Aunt Swarna Premachandra: Fazil, I have manyy disappointments. You do remember what Mahinda did for the Muslim community.

Hirunika Premachandra’s Aunt, Swarna Gunaratne, who is the Consulate General of Sri Lanka to Los Angeles, played the following voice recording of a bribe that was offered:-
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: I know where you are coming from, whether you accept this or not is a different thing. But I called you as a friend. .
I accept what Maithripala did was wrong. It is against the constitution. Appointing Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister, I am hundred per cent against that move. Just because I support Maithripala that does not mean I support Mahinda Rajapaksa. “I called Hirunika so many times, because from the day that she was elected to parliament she had not been able to get a Cabinet post and an opportunity to serve the country”
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: Oh! Come on, Come on Fazil. Aiyo, that is not you are trying to do and you are asking Hirunika to come to Mahinda’s Cabinet.
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: No no no no
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: You must be kidding. You must be kidding.
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: The Boss is still Maithripala. Don’t forget. Mahinda Rajapaksa gets resources like to think what he did in his regime. Before 2014, I was the same person who goes all out against him.
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: Fazil, I have many disappointments. You do remember what Mahinda did for the Muslim community.
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: Swarna, I’m a Maithripala loyalist, I will tell you openly. I worked with him. I go to him and tell about what is the problem now going on in this country. He is listening to me.
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: Yeah, I feel that he is listening to everyone. Even I left Rs.150, 000 job to help Maithripala.
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: Swarna, listen to me, he wanted to buy a ship. Listen to me. Swarna, he wanted to buy a Dollar 195 million ship. I’m the only one who went against him. And he asked me- Fazil, why you wrote things like that?
I said, no sir. We don’t have a war. I openly told him that there are more many important things than a ship and therefore we don’t need a ship.
You know who was the richest, Sirasa boss Shevan Daniel. You can ask him whether I did that or not. I don’t bend for anyone.
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: Fazil, now I see, there are lots of agents trying to like a….. Premachandra will never be sold.
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: I called Hirunika and said not for the money but where she gets certainly responsible ministry like Women’s Affairs Ministry because she is
very vocal.
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: Me… Premachandras will never be sold. OK. Premachandras will never be sold. And for me Fazil, if you think this Government is a big thing
for me…
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: I have already done that, I have already done that, no point.
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: I telephoned you because of my humanity. That’s up to you.
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: You keep your humanity.
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: I can destroy Hirunika’s political career as I wish, you understand that?
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: Oh please!
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: Hirunika is not a big thing for me.
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: Oh please, please!
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: I called you all because of humanity and you all accusing me.
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: Please Nizar, you destroy her.
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: In the last three and half years what I made at the end of the month is finished. I’ll send you the last three years of my bank statements. I hardly have any money left. I never bend for anyone and I didn’t shop for others.
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: OK Fazil.
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: I spent money, own money to file cases against the houses. What I did in Mannar with spending my own money.
Aunt Swarna Premachandra: OK Fazil, You do what you can do to Hirunika. Try to expel me out from here. I have no problem. I have not come here to stay so long. I came here after leaving many big jobs. Do I have no problem?
Fazil Muhammed Nizar: You all are messed up, I’m telling you. I called you for humanity.
Aunt Swarna Premachandra’s son: Hi sorry, I’m gonna interrupt you. you need to stop calling my mom and stop threatening my cousin because I’m absolutely done with these conversations. Okay, you need to stop. Listen, I don’t care what you have to say at this point, You are a grown man. Do not bother my mom again. Thank you very much, Thanks.
