Untitled-7A  special team led by Police Chief Pujith Jayasundara, senior DIG of the CID and Police Spokesman left for Batticaloa to probe the killing of two police constables, Police said.  
  Two police constables — 28-year-old Ganesh Dinesh a resident of Kalmunai and 35-year-old Niroshan Indika Prassanna, a resident of Udugama, Galle — were found dead last morning at a checkpoint in Vavunathivu, Batticaloa. 

Initial investigations had revealed that they were shot by a T-56 weapon and the two weapons belonging to the slain policemen had been taken away by the killers. 

Police said the two policemen attached to the Vavunathivu police station had gone to this particular checkpoint at around 6 pm on Thursday on night duty. The two policemen who had gone to the post last morning had seen the bodies of the policemen.  

A major police operation is underway to find the killers.   



They appear to have been shot by a T-56 weapon. The motive behind the killing is still not known
