  • Public and VIP galleries closed

The public and the VIP galleries will be closed when the vote of confidence is taken for debate and voting in Parliament today, Serjeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando said yesterday.   

He told Daily Mirror that only the media gallery would be opened for lobby correspondents.   


The House will take up the vote of confidence on UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesnghe. It will be moved by MP Sajith Premadasa. The motion has been signed by Mr. Premadasa and MPs Ravi Karunanayake, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Lakshman Kiriella, Rajitha Senaratne, Palany Thigambaram, Mangala Samaraweera and Rishad Bathiudeen.   


Meanwhile, the House will also take up another motion moved by Wijepala Hettiarachchi, Harshana Rajakaruna, Mayantha Dissanayake, Mujibur Rahuman, Ajith Mannapperuma, Jayampathy Wickramaratne and Hirunika Premachandra calling the President to take action with regard to no-confidence motion, approved by the House, on MP Mahinda Rajapaksa who was appointed Prime Minister on October 26 and his Cabinet of ministers.  

 

The motion has been signed by Mr. Premadasa and MPs Ravi Karunanayake,  Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Lakshman Kiriella, Rajitha Senaratne, Palany  Thigambaram, Mangala Samaraweera and Rishad Bathiudeen
