Four arrested over SLTB- private bus clash

A driver of a private passenger bus had died subsequent following an assault by a driver of an SLTB bus in Welimada last afternoon, the police said.  

The victim was admitted to the Welimada Hospital following the assault but succumbed to his injuries later on at the hospital.   


The clash, that occurred at the Welimada Bus Terminal, was attributed to a dis-agreement with regard to the timetable.   


According to police investigations, the SLTB bus driver and the conductor had assaulted the private bus driver following an argument over a departure time.  
The 49-year-old victim had been identified by police as Udawelle Gamini Wasantha Kumara Liyanage, a resident of Thalawa, Guruthalawa.  


The SLTB driver and the conductor were arrested after they were admitted to the Meeragahawatte Hospital after being injured in the fracas.   


The suspects were later admitted to the Diyatalawa Hospital under police custody.  


The Police said that two other SLTB crew members, who were involved in the assault, had also been taken into custody.  


The suspects are to be produced in the Welimada Magistrate’s Court today and the Welimada Police are conducting investigations.
