TNA Leader R. Sampanthan yesterday said there were two Leaders of Opposition and thus Sri Lanka carried a danger of being named as a Failed State.

Making a special statement in Parliament, Mr Sampanthan said there were two Leaders of Opposition at present as Speaker had not removed him from the post.

“The Speaker had not removed me from the Post of Opposition Leader. Sri Lanka was plunged into a crisis with violations of Constitution and now there are more issues with Parliament having two Leaders of Opposition,” Mr Sampanthan said.

“The Speaker named me the Leader of Opposition twice, despite the claim made by the UPFA and now he has named former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Leader of Opposition.

“However Mr Rajapaksa has ceased to be a Member of Parliament after he obtained the membership of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). Therefore, I urge the Speaker to take corrective action as soon as possible,” he added.
TNA MP M. A. Sumanthiran, who rose to speak at this moment asked for the appointment of a Select Committee to look into whether Mr Rajapaksa could remain in Parliament or not.
