  • Govt. says fully-fledged Budget will be presented in April 2019

The Vote on Account presented by the government yesterday was passed in Parliament with 102 MPs voting in favour and six MPs voting against.

The United National Party (UNP) and Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MPs who were present voted in favour of the Vote on Account while 116 MPs — the UPFA MPs and ten TNA MPs — were not present at the time at the time of voting.

JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake called for a division. Mr. Dissanayake who wound up the debate alleged that the government had sought parliamentary approval to spend state funds to fulfil some of its political aspirations.   
The government yesterday presented a Vote on Account to seek Parliamentary approval to spend funds from the consolidated fund during the first quarter of next year till a fully fledged budget is presented in April 2019.   
Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera who opened the debate on said the government would present its 2019 Budget in April.
