Suspect arrested with heroin worth Rs.12mn in Marawila

A 28-year-old suspect was arrested with 1 kg of heroin with a street value of Rs. 12 million at Dematapitiya in Marawila on Sunday evening, police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said.

He said the suspect, a resident of Lunuwila, was arrested following a tip off. He was to be produced before the Marawila Magistrate yesterday.   

Meanwhile, another three suspects including a prison Department employees were arrested in three separate raids in Borella, Dehiwala and Mannar on Sunday.   

Police said a 54 year-old prison employee, worked as a pharmacist was arrested by the Prisons officials on possession of 7.9 grammes of heroin at the Welikada Prison.   

The suspect resident of Borella was handed over to the Borella Police and was to produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate.   

Police said a 24-year-old man from Dehiwala has also been arrested with 52.2 grammes of heroin near the Ranajayagama ground in Dehiwala while a 48-year-old man was arrested at Uppukulam North in Mannar with 2 grammes of heroin.   

Both suspects were to be produced in the Mount Lavinia and Mannar Magistrate’s Courts respectively.
