  • 167,907 students were eligible for university entrance
  • Total of 321,469 students sat for the exam

The GCE A/L examination results – 2018 have been released on Saturday night and 167,907 students were eligible for university entrance, the Examinations Department announced yesterday.   

Commissioner Department of Examinations B. Sanath Pujitha said a total of 321,469 students had sat for the examination.   


He said the Department had decided to suspend the results of 119 applicants who sat for the examination due to reports on several irregularities such as using high-tech equipment and violating examination rules and regulations.   
Meanwhile, W. R. A. Kalani Samuda Rajapaksa of Rathnavali Balika Maha Vidyalaya in Gampaha has topped the Island ranking in Biology stream while Ravindu Shashika Illangamge of D.S. Senanayake College Colombo and M. Rizmi Mohammad Hakeem Kareem of Zahira College Matale have ranked second and third respectively.   

 

  • Kalani Rajapaksa of Rathnavali Balika Maha Vidyalaya in Gampaha has topped the Island ranking in Biology stream
  • Hansani Wijegunawardane of Vishaka Vidyalaya, Colombo has topped the Island ranking in Physics stream


Chathuni Hansani Wasantha Wijegunawardane of Vishaka Vidyalaya, Colombo has topped the Island ranking in Physics stream while Chamindu Suran Liyanage of Richmond College, Galle has ranked second and H. Thevindu Janith Wijesekera of Royal College, Colombo ranked the third place.   


L. H. M. Kasun Indiranga Wickremerathne of Maliyadeva Boy’s College, Kurunegala has topped first in the Island in the Commerce stream while R. A. Uchini Ayathma Ranaweera of Rathnawali Girls’ College, Gampaha and V. M. Malithi Jayarathen of Musaeus College, Colombo ranked second and the third respectively.   


T. D Senadi Damaya de Alwis of Lyceum International College, Panadura, E. M Sithmi Nimashi Edirisinghe of Maliyadeva Girls’ College, Kurunegala and P. A. Ishani Umesha Kumaru Pitigala of Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy have ranked topped respectively in Island in Arts stream.   


In the Technology Engineering stream, M . Pamuditha Yasas Pathirana of Ananda College Colombo has topped the Island while Samanayake Tharindu Heshan of Ananda College, Colombo ranked second and W. M Shehan Rangana Wijekoon of Mahasen National College, Nikaweratiya ranked the third.   


Sanduni Piyumasha Kodippili of Narandeniya Central College, Kamburupitiya has ranked first in Bio-Tech stream.   


Mohideen Baawaa Risha Mohommad of Muslim Central College in Samanthurai and A. Visindu Dilenka Lakmal of Mahinda Rajapaksa College, Homagama have ranked second and third respectively in Bio-Tech.   
The Commissioner said the results of outstation schools had been posted yesterday (30).
