The notorious ‘Sena’ caterpillar which was responsible for the vast destruction of maize crop in Ampara has begun to destroy the paddy cultivation in the Sinhapura area in Polonnaruwa, the Ministry of Agriculture announced.

As of now 35,000 acres of maize have been destroyed in Ampara by this caterpillar. It is reported that this caterpillar has begun to destroy paddy cultivation now.

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock Development, Fishery and Aquatic Resources, P. Harrison has decided to establish a task force for the introduction of a methodology to prevent the havoc being wreaked by this caterpillar. In addition, he has decided to appoint a committee to take a course of action for the destruction of this caterpillar.

However, it is reported that it does not seem to be a decrease but an increase in the expansion of this creature.

The authorities have recognized that the caterpillar has the ability to destroy over 150 types of agricultural crops.
