CMC JVP members protest against Rs.1 million spent on entertainment

Colombo Municipal Council JVP members showed their protest on Monday for spending the one million rupees as entertainment expenses incurred on the day CMC budget debate was held.   

This protest was held when the Mayor Rosy Senanayaka presented the statement of entertainment expenditure to the CMC meeting held on Monday seeking council’s approval.   

The budget for 2019 was presented on 18th last month and although debate was earlier planned for two days later it was agreed to conclude the debate in one day continuing the debate till midnight and vote to be taken on the same day.   

Speaking on the statement of entertainment expenditure JVP Councillor Hemantha Weerakone stated that it was not justifiable to approve it to be paid out of the peoples’ money. JVP opposed against the approval of the entertainment expenditure and all six JVP member voted against.
