Official gets 3 years for bribery

Maskeliya Veterinary Office

A livestock development instructor attached to the Maskeliya Veterinary Office was imposed three years imprisonment with a fine of Rs.5,000 by the Colombo High Court yesterday, for soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000. 


Convict Chaminda Bandara has solicited and accepted the bribe from an individual to issue a permit to transport cattle. 

Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunge found the accused guilty of one of the four charges against him and imposed jail sentence. 

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) had indicted the accused of accepting the bribe from a cattle farm owner.
