A disagreement between SriLankan Airlines and Panasonic Corporation after SriLankan Engineering Materials Division failed to take steps to distinguish ownership of spare parts for an In-flight Entertainment System (IES), it was revealed at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) into irregularities at SriLankan Airlines, SriLankan Catering and Mihin Lanka yesterday.

Engineering Materials Executive of SriLankan Lalith Chandana Dedigama informed the Commission that in 2005 SriLankan had entered into an agreement with Panasonic to install the E-2000 in-flight entertainment system.
He informed the Commission this system was installed in four A300-200 aircraft as a part of maintenance agreement but Panasonic had left a number of spares at the stores of SriLankan.

Mr. Dedigama said that due to not adding the ownership codes into these items made it confuse to identify which component belonged to which institution. “So when the agreement ended in 2016, there was a serious disagreement between the two companies about the returns,” he said.
