Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Saturday that the Government had decided to have regular dialogues with the Mahanayake Theras on the steps that had to be taken to safeguard Buddhism.

Mr Wickremesinghe said this while talking to journalists after a meeting he had with Mahanayake of Sri Kalayani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha of Siyam Maha Nikaya, the Most Venerable Ittapana Dhammalankara Thera at Dharma Vijayaloka Vihara in Rukmalgama on Saturday.

“I have informed the Mahanayake Thera that the Government would engage in constant dialogue with the Mahanayake Theras on the steps that have to be taken to safeguard Buddhism. I have also informed them that the Government is also for uniting all religious groups,” he said.

“I also briefed him on the steps taken by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Buddha Sasana and Ministry of Cultural Affairs to safeguard Buddhism. We received the Mahanayake Thera’s blessings for what we have done and what we intend to do for Buddhism in this country,” he added.
