Chitral Somapala in Concert on Feb. 10

Impulse--1-3Chitral ‘Chity’ Somapala who has rocked the music scene for 35 years, will for the first time present a grand musical fiesta titled ‘Lalithakala’ at the BMICH on Sunday February 10 at 7 pm, bringing back golden memories of his parents – legendary singers P. L. A. Somapala and Chitra Somapala.

“This is the first time in 35 years that I am coming up with a solo musical concert as a tribute to my parents. It is a son’s tribute to the legendary parents. 70% of lineup will include evergreen golden hits of my parents with the rest made up of my originals, all sung with an acoustic musical treatment,” Chitral told Daily Mirror Life Impulse.

“Almost all the songs of my late parents enhanced the beauty of our country and they are still remembered by their die-hard fans. In fact, my parents’ ardent fans who are still alive and the new generation motivated me to embark on this musical mission. This will indeed be a tuneful tribute to them,” said Chitral who had been living overseas.

With music running in his veins, Chitral has made a huge mark as a vocalist and singer in the international arena too. Though his local contribution to music may not be big in terms of numbers, the Isipathana College old boy has made a tremendous mark with his creations like Nadee Ganga Tharanaye which is interestingly 21 years old now. Veteran Betram Nihal had penned the lyrics for the song musically rearranged by Chitral to the tune of ‘Many Rivers to Cross’.

Chitral ‘Chity’ has worked with renowned bands in many parts of the world and his experience in the spehere has been so enormous and extensive.

Chitral sang some beautiful songs for movies like Adaraneeya Kathawak, Me Wage Adarayak and Ege Esa Aga. Incidentally he was adjudged the best male playback singer in 2017 at the SIGNIS Film Awards ceremony.
“My Lalithakala concert on February 10th presented by DK Promotions, will be compered by veteran Kelum Srimal while the orchestra will include Mahinda Bandara, Saman Priyantha, Sangeeth Wickremasinghe, Priyanata Gage, Vajira Gomes, Lelum Rathnayake, Dhananjaya Somasiri, Thisara Bandara, Sanath Sathischandra, Jayantha Dissanayake, Umara Sinhawansa will join me making a very special guest appearance. She will also sing a few songs of my parents,” said Chitral who recently launched his newest music video titled ‘Sinhalokaye Sinhaya’ penned by Kelum Srimal and musically composed by Chitral.
