Three Ava gang members who were in hiding after slashing two persons on Thai Pongal Day were nabbed by the police in Jaffna yesterday with swords used for the act.   

Jaffna Police Crime Division on information received raided a spot in the town and apprehended the three suspects and found two swords used by them for various crimes.   


Police Media Spokesman’s Office said the suspects were responsible for slashing two men on January 15 on Thai Pongal Day near Nachchiamman Kovil and causing them grievous injuries.   


The arrested suspects had been identified as Chandrabala Akila Suman (25) of Manipay Road, Nagaratnam Dilakshan alias ‘Motta Shiva’ aged 19 years of Arasadi Road and Yuwarasa Dilakshan (23) of Arugalmadam area in Jaffna.   The suspects were produced before Jaffna Magistrate’s Courts yesterday and were ordered to be remanded till today pending an identification parade.   Jaffna Police are conducting further investigations.
