Accident claims mother, daughter at Kaluwamodara

Two pedestrians, a 60-year old woman and her 40-year-old daughter had died when a lorry crashed into them at Kaluwamodara in Aluthgama early yesterday morning.  

Police said the lorry was speeding towards Galle at around 4.30 am yesterday rammed into a motorcycle and on the two women on the Galle-Colombo Main Road after the driver of the lorry had lost control of the vehicle.  

They said the injured man was identified as the husband of the deceased 60-year-old woman. The two women and the motorcyclist were admitted to the Nagoda Hospital, where the women, residents of Kaluwamodara succumbed to their injuries after admission to the hospital.  

The driver of the lorry was arrested by the Aluthgama police and was to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate.
