A Buddhist monk approached Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at a function on Sunday in Balapitiya and requested him to rid the area of underworld criminals and the drug menace.

He monk made these requests as the Prime Minister was walking up to the podium to address the gathering.

“Honourable Prime Minister when I was travelling on Saturday night I saw a man with both his hands cut off. He was seated by the side of the road and unable to move. I took him to hospital in my vehicle. There are lots of underworld activities in this area and the large scale distribution of narcotics,” the monk said. “It will be a meritorious deed if you could get rid of these social evils.”

The Prime Minister assured the monk to take steps to do so.
