Three killed, twenty injured in fatal bus accident

Three people were killed and twenty others injured, when a Colombo bound bus from Vavuniya, skidded off the road and crashed into a transformer at Mahawewa Junction in Marawila early yesterday morning. 

Police said two army personnel, a sailor, five women and the driver of the bus were among the injured.   

The injured were admitted to the Marawila hospital and two of them who were in a critical condition were later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.  

Initial investigations revealed that the semi luxury bus had skidded off the road when the driver lost control of the bus at around 4.30 a.m. yesterday. The bus had collided with a container before it crashed into the transformer.  
The front part of the bus had been badly damaged and the deceased were found trapped inside the bus.  

According to the Police,  Sanjeewa Mendis a 45-year-old resident of Mangalagama and an individual identified as Namal Randika were among the deceased who were identified as of yesterday evening.  
The Marawila Police is investigating.
